Penny Spence Is The Next CFO of Henderson Companies

Henderson Companies has named Penny Spence as its new chief financial officer.

In her new role, Spence will oversee financial operations, including budgeting, compliance, forecasting, reporting, and financial planning and analysis strategies for Henderson Companies and subsidiaries Henderson Engineers and Henderson Building Solutions, according to a release shared with Ingram’s

Spence has 27 years of finance experience. She most recently served as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City for nearly 6.5 years. While serving in her role at Stowers, Spence was named an honoree for the Ingram’s 2023 WeKC recognition.

Before that, she held the role of vice president and assistant treasurer at Lockton Companies for over 3 years. She also held treasury analyst roles at Hallmark Card from 2001 to 2002 and at Black & Veatch from 1998 to 2001.

Spence holds an MBA from Avila University in Kansas City, MO., and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Emporia State University.

Henderson Building Solutions placed in the No. 19 spot in Top Area General Contractors ranked by Total Area/Headquarters Billings in Ingram’s May 2025 edition. In 2024, the company’s total firm-wide billings reached $89.86 million, a 36.1% increase compared to 2023.
