A new partnership between Kansas City-based Saint Luke’s Health System, Children’s Mercy and UnitedHealthcare out of Minnesota has resulted in an effort to create a new narrow network commercial plan for customers.
Set to become available on Jan. 1, the intent of the new network plan to provide a cheaper option that will save individuals on their monthly premiums.
Named Core Essential, the plan would only provide care at Saint Luke’s Health System’s 18 hospitals, 10 clinics and roughly 130 physician and specialty offices as well as provide in-network access to Children’s Mercy.
“We’re introducing Core Essential because we know that many employers in the Kansas City area are looking for ways to continue providing quality benefits to their employees but at a more affordable cost,” Rob Broomfield, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Kansas, said.
Through the new plan which will be available in select Missouri and Kansas counties beginning in 2021, the narrow-network option has the potential to not only save money for employers but also their employees.
