Parent of Springfield-based Bass Pro acquires competitor

The parent company of Bass Pro Shops has announced it will acquire outdoor sporting goods retailer Sportman’s Warehouse in a $785 million cash deal. The acquisition will expand ecommerce selection and is expected to close in the second half of 2021.

Great American Outdoors Group, parent company of Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s and White River Marine Group, will acquire Sportsman’s Warehouse for $785 million in cash, according to The Street. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2021.

Once the deal closes, Sportsman’s Warehouse will offer shoppers Bass Pro Shops’ fishing tackle and Cabela’s hunting gear as well as an overall expanded ecommerce selection. Additionally, the retailer will start honoring The Great American Outdoors Group’s “Low Price Guarantee,” which ensures the retailer will match or beat any qualified competing offers in-store or online.

Additionally, Sportsman’s Warehouse will leverage Great American Outdoors Group’s network of distribution centers and stores to speed up online fulfillment and help maintain in-store inventory levels. The retailer also will retain its regional and seasonal focus, and continue offering regional merchandise and “hands-on” product tryouts with local experts.

“Today is a happy day for our companies, outdoor enthusiasts and for the cause of conservation,” said Johnny Morris, Founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops Founder and Great American Outdoors Group Leader in a statement. “As outdoor sports specialists with unwavering dedication to people who fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors, we greatly admire the passionate team at Sportsman’s Warehouse for their commitment to their customers and the sports we all love. By combining our best practices, our aim is to give our customers a best-of-the-best experience while further uniting them to support conservation.”
