“(Aspiria) is a place where businesses aspire to be, and people are inspired to grow,” Occidental CEO Gary Oborny said.
Occidental acquired the campus in July 2019 for $250.9 million. In September, the developer revealed its plan to build more than 2.7 million square feet of new construction and transform Kansas City’s largest office park into a mixed-use, “live, work, play” development.
The plans calls for 600 multifamily units, 375,000 square feet of retail and more than 1.4 million square feet of office, including 50,000-square-foot additions to four of the existing 17 buildings and a new Class A building expected to come in 2021.
According to the release, leasing is underway for the first new office building proposed at the corner of 119th Street and Nall Avenue. Occidental President Chad Stafford leads the leasing for the company’s Overland Park properties.
“I’ve been in the commercial real estate business for 20 years and this property is truly unique to the region,” Stafford said in the release. “As the second-largest corporate campus in the country, the sheer size is impressive, but the on-site offerings are unprecedented. It truly creates a place where companies can attract top-level talent to move businesses forward.”
Other “live, work, play” additions to the sprawling campus include a 120-room hotel, restaurants, retail, community parks and an amphitheater.
“Aspiria reflects an innovative and transformative destination — one we are eager to watch take shape,” Oborny said in the release. “The project is of a grand scale on the global stage, and we needed a name and brand that was representative of an environment with limitless options.”
