The Overland Park City Council has approved a revised preliminary plan to construct a retail development site at 135th Street.

Plans for the Oslo Marketplace, a 3.5-acre retail redevelopment, were approved during a city council meeting on Monday. The location was formerly the Frey and Frey Mission Gardens Nursery. The Frey family trust is the applicant for the Oslo Marketplace project.

The site is proposed to be split into six lots consisting of 28,603 square feet of commercial development, which will include two drive-thru restaurants, one drive-thru coffee shop, two retail locations and a bank.

Chase Bank and 7 Brew are already lined up as tenets for the redevelopment upon its completion. Chase will occupy the 3,293-square-foot corner building on the east side of the development, while 7 Brew will be located in the 510-square-foot lot to the west of Chase.

The remaining lots consist of a two-story retail building in the center of Oslo Marketplace that takes up lots 4 and 5, 10,400 and 11,200 square feet, respectively. The other two lots are reserved for drive-thru restaurants and will both make up 1,600 square feet of space.

The Oslo Marketplace is also conveniently located near commercial development as well as a family multi-family apartment complex. To the north of the redevelopment is The OsLo, a 413-unit apartment building, which broke ground in October 2023. The OsLo is currently being developed by Minneapolis-based Ryan Companies.

The Oslo Marketplace project will have Olsson work as the civil engineer and Kansas City-based NSPJ Architects as its architect.
