NKC Health has been granted $8 million from entrepreneurs Dave and Jamie Cummings.
This gift will support facility expansion, state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and pioneering treatment programs in the health system. Dave was born at NKC Health and underwent a lifesaving heart bypass surgery last year.
“Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in America,” Dave said in a release. “Jamie and I are committed to ensuring that people in our community have access to world-class care right here at home.”
Through the grant, NKC Health will enhance its diagnostic capabilities by implementing AI-powered diagnostic systems and acquire a new cardiac PET/CT scanner, advanced EKG technology and other leading-edge equipment. NKC Health will also expand its patient access by increasing capacity as well as recruiting new cardiologists and cardiac surgeons.
NKC Health plans to use the gift to accelerate the integration of Mayo Clinic’s best practices. In April, NKC Health—formerly known as North Kansas City Hospital—joined the Mayo Clinic network, a global network of independent healthcare systems. As part of the network, NKC Health receives access to digital solutions from the Mayo Clinic Platform.
“This extraordinary gift from Dave and Jamie will have an immediate and lasting impact on the quality of cardiac care in our community,” president and CEO of NKC Health, Dr. Stephen Reintjes, said in the release. “It will save lives for decades to come.”
NKC Health has more than 4,700 staff members, including over 600 dedicated physicians, along with specialists and caregivers across 35 locations. North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health officially rebranded under its new name in June.
