Educational virtual reality technology will be introduced to classrooms across Kansas City, Kan. this week with the launch of a 1-year pilot program. Formed in partnership with the KCK School Foundation for Excellence, the program will introduce new educational opportunities for teachers and students.

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools in partnership with the Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence will announce the launch of a new pilot program this week.

New Educational Virtual Reality (E-VR) technology is being introduced to several schools and classrooms in the district in a 1-year pilot format.

The pilot program is expected to create opportunities for teachers and students to approach education in ways that traditional classroom settings cannot.

The technology utilizes recording with 180°and 360° cameras, and E-VR headsets to allow for virtual learning inside and outside the classroom.

Schools participating in the pilot program will receive more than $80,000 worth of technology and equipment provided by OmniLife. The cost is being covered through a Unified Government CARES ACT grant and the Barton P. Mary D. Charitable Trust acquired by the Foundation for Excellence.

In addition to the equipment provided by OmniLife, The Future Leaders Outreach Network (FLON) is collaborating with the Foundation for Excellence to provide a 48ft. mobile trailer that will be equipped with E-VR headsets and laptops.

Originally set to be announced this Wednesday, Feb. 10 during a special celebratory event at Carl B. Bruce Middle School, the event has been canceled due to an expected continuation of inclement weather.
