New Documents Show $1.2B Formula Error for Royals Stadium Cost

A document containing a “corrected number” shows how much the new Kansas City Royals stadium would cost, FOX4 reported Tuesday.

The corrected number is $5.13 billion for Jackson County over a 40-year-period. In October, a document was leaked that put the total cost of the stadium at $6.41 billion, a $1.28 billion difference compared to the correct cost.

FOX4 spoke with Democratic Jackson County Legislator Manny Abarca about the error in the October documents.

“I think these numbers were inflated to scare voters,” he said. “I think that that’s part of, again, why this stadium committee needs to exist to create the realities of what is fact and what is fiction.”
