A new Costco Wholesale is coming to Lawrence later this year, as part of The Mercato development, near the northeast corner of 6th Street and Highway 10.
The new location is expected to open in Fall 2026, with construction currently underway. Costco originally submitted its site plan for the building in October. The building will be 166,000 square feet and will be complete with an on-site 24-pump gas station, tire center, bakery, produce, floral, and other amenities.
LANE4 Property Group represented the seller in the transaction to the ownership group K-10/40 Development, L.C.
The store is planned to be the centerpiece of The Mercato, a 90-acre mixed-use development that is also home to Braum’s and Truity Credit Union. The development site is just south of Rock Chalk Park and neighbors Lawrence Memorial Hospital and StoneHill Hotel.
“We’re thrilled to help bring Costo to Lawrence and see this as a major destination anchor that draws shoppers from across Douglas County and Lawrence’s surrounding communities,” K-10/40 Development representative, Becca Koester, said in a release. “The Lawrence store will be Costco’s most western store in Kansas along the I-70 corridor.”

The Lawrence Costco location is the brand’s fifth store in the Kansas City metropolitan area, joining locations in Lenexa, the two in Kansas City, Missouri and the recently announced Lee’s Summit location, which was approved in December.
