New Birth Company, LLC announced it will be closing down its Overland Park birth center location due to “unsustainable market conditions.”
New Birth Company, founded by Kendra Wyatt and Catherine Gordon, will close its Overland Park location as of September 1, 2024, according to an announcement on the company’s website. The last day of clinic will be Wednesday, August 21, and the last day to be admitted to the birth center will be Thursday, August 22.
The company announced earlier in July the Overland Park location closure, citing unsustainable market conditions and support from insurance partners.
“Very simply, multiple insurance companies (Medicaid and Commercial) have failed to pay enough to cover expenses,” the company said in an update. Last week, the company claimed its safety net partner had a desire to support a future birth center; but not for at least 6 months.
New Birth Company said it would commit to transferring its client care to another provider concurrent to our closure and plan to provide August birthing Moms with post-partum care on a case-by-case basis.
In 2021, New Birth Company had to face a similar circumstance that resulted in the closure of its Kansas City, Kansas location.
“Numerous factors contributed to this closure, but chronically low Medicaid reimbursement rates for Certified Nurse Midwives and Birth Centers have exacerbated it,” according to a FAQ response from the company at the time.
Two of New Birth Company’s midwives Rebecca Schleuger-Valdao, and Veronica Mullet announced they are opening a home birth practice, Blossom Midwifery and Wellness.
