Missouri S&T and City of Rolla to stimulate development with realignment project plan

A master plan for a realignment project organized by the university and city is moving forward with the vision to provide direct access from the interstate to the school’s main entrance, projected to cost $32 million and take five years to complete.

A realignment project with the vision of providing direct access from the interstate to the main entrance of the Missouri University of Science and Technology is moving forward for the university and the City of Rolla.

The project is part of an updated university master plan reports St. Louis Public Radio and involves shifting University Drive a block south of where it currently sits.

Currently, University Drive dead-ends at US Highway 63, which realignment plans hope to change by having it shifted and end in a roundabout.

While the University looks forward to having a more direct path to its main entrance and front doors, the city believes the project will benefit Rolla by providing increased access to the city’s two largest employers, the University and Phelps Health.

Moves have been made by the city to get the project underway, the City of Rolla has already purchased 17 properties for the realignment, reports St. Louis Public Radio.

Projected time for the realignment is estimated to take about five years and $32 million to complete.
