Approximately $280,783,940 is the remainder of approximately $438 million in FY21 spending that has been restricted, “to ensure a balanced budget and the necessary funds to combat the virus moving forward,” according to a Monday news release from the governor’s office.

“Thanks to our balanced approach to COVID-19, Missouri is in a much better position than what was originally projected,” Parson said in the release. “Our economy continues to come back strong, and we’re pleased to be able to release the remainder of these funds today.”

The majority of the funding will be put toward K-12 public schools, college scholarships and other government services that he previously blocked from being spent. The money Parson freed on Monday was the last of the state’s spending restrictions.

Around $123 million of the funding is for K-12 public schools, another $1.5 million for the state’s academic college scholarship program, Bright Flight, and $5.7 million to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
