In a recent study conducted by CNBC, Missouri was ranked the sixth-worst state to live and work in, with the leading factors attributed to the state’s voting rights, reproductive rights and crime.

The rankings were gathered using data from another CNBC study, America’s Top States for Business. The study measured each state’s quality of life concerns including; crime, healthcare, child care and policies on discrimination and reproductive rights.

According to the study, Missouri received a life, health & inclusion score of 98 out of 350 points, a top states grade of “F”. However, Missourians can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the study attributed good air quality as a positive factor in the state’s favor.

The study’s reasoning:

“The Show Me State is showing abortion opponents the way. In 2019, the state became the first to enact a so-called “trigger law,” which went into effect moments after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. The law, one of the strictest in the nation, bans all abortions except in the case of a medical emergency, which the abortion provider must prove. Also, Missouri’s violent crime rate is among the nation’s highest.”

The rankings are as follows:

10. Florida
9. Arkansas
8. Tennessee
7. Indiana
6. Missouri
4. Alabama (tie for fourth)
4. South Carolina (tie for fourth)
3. Louisiana
2. Oklahoma
1. Texas
