The nationwide shortage of nurses continues almost unabated, but for Missouri and Kansas, new figures from the Census Department show the bistate region is in better shape than most other states.
Data compiled by Becker’s Hospital Review for June ranked Missouri No. 8 for nurses on a per-capita basis, with 11.25 for every 1,000 residents. Kansas came in at No. 21, with 9.86 per 1,000 residents, slightly ahead of the national average of 9.77.
No. 1 on the list was Washington, D.C., at 16.74 followed somewhat surprisingly by two of the least-populated states: South Dakota at 15.95 and North Dakota at 15.16. Texas (7.47), Georgia (7.31) and Utah (7.26) claimed the lowest rankings.
