Metro receives first shipments of Johnson & Johnson vaccine

By Madison Parry

Around 10,000 doses of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine from Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies reached the Kansas City metro Wednesday. The doses come from a 50,000-dose shipment sent to the state of Missouri.

Around 50,000 doses of the recently-approved Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 were signed off to be shipped to Missouri on Sunday, Feb. 28.

Of those, 10,000 are to be sent to Kansas City and were expected to have arrived in the metro on Wednesday, March 3.

The single-dose vaccine is the third to receive U.S. FDA approval, following the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

Similar to the previous two vaccines, doctors say the Johnson & Johnson vaccine from Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies is safe and effective.

However, two important differences have been noted including that it has fewer side affects and that there are fewer manufacturing and storage requirements.
