Saint Louis-based Mercy and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Missouri have reached a new multi-year agreement following months of negotiations.

Mercy, a nonprofit organization, announced the new agreement allows Anthem members continued access to affordable, high-quality care at all Mercy hospitals, outpatient care centers and physician offices across Missouri, according to a release Wednesday.

The new contract allows uninterrupted in-network access to Mercy doctors and care sites for Anthem employer-based, Medicare Advantage and Affordable Care Act Marketplace health plans in Missouri.

In September, Mercy said it would terminate its contracts with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, calling to pull out of the system by Jan. 1, 2025, if a new agreement had not been met.

Mercy claimed it would need to “remove much of the red tape that makes it increasingly difficult for patients to navigate Anthem’s system and creates a burden and barrier for patients to receive care when it’s medically necessary,” according to a release at the time.
