MCC realigning work-force office effort

November 2021

Funding from a $600,000 grant will be geared toward relocation of Metropolitan Community College's work-force training programs. The transition is being made in an effort to increase program accessibility to students in the urban core.

Armed with a $600,000 grant from a private trust, Metropolitan Community College will relocate its work-force training programs, with a goal of making them more accessible to students in the urban core. The programs currently are housed at the college’s Business & Technology Campus, near I-435 and Front Street; those efforts will be relocated to the new Advanced Technical Skills Institute at 2944 Troost Ave.

Campus officials say they hope that moving those programs into Midtown site will not only provide greater access for urban-core students, but also increase diversity in enrollment for training in the skilled trades, and should help drive economic development in the area.

Chancellor Kim Beatty said that the grant, from the Edward F. Swinney Trust administered through Bank of America, would help MCC meet the evolving needs of the region’s major employers.
