Fast food franchise Whataburger and KMO Burger, LLC, have announced a joint venture, allowing the latter to own and operate all restaurant locations in the Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri markets.
The new partnership will see Whataburger contribute its 16 company-owned locations in Missouri and Kansas, while KMO Burger will contribute its 13 existing restaurants. KMO Burger, co-owned by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, now owns and operates all 29 locations under the Whataburger brand, according to a release Wednesday.
Terms of the joint venture were not disclosed in the release.
“As a longtime fan and investor, I’m thrilled to take this next step with Whataburger. The brand means a lot to me — not just for the food, but for how it brings people together. Our team at KMO Burger is ready to keep raising the bar,” Mahomes said in the release. “I’m proud to be part of a team that’s focused on both growth and community.”
All Whataburger employees will transition to become employees of KMO Burger. Furthermore, a dedicated cross-functional team has been established to provide resources and information for staff throughout the transition.
