Mahomes claims minority stake in the Kansas City Royals

On Tuesday, 24-year-old Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes becomes a Major League Baseball minority owner with the Kansas City Royals, now the youngest part-owner in sports history.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced his newly acquired minority stake in the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

At 24-years-old, Mahomes is now the youngest part-owner in sports history.

“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” John Sherman, chairman, CEO and principal owner of the Royals, said in a statement. 

It was not revealed how much of a stake Mahomes took in the team or the value of his share.

“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” Mahomes said in a statement. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

The Kansas City Royals are valued at just over $1 billion, according to Forbes.
