The new Lenexa Justice Center has officially opened and will be the new home for the Lenexa Police Department and Lenexa Municipal Court.

The new Lenexa Justice Center is located at 17371 Prairie Star Parkway. City leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting on Monday. Public residents can now visit the facility for police and court services.

The new facility consists of two buildings. The first is a two-story, 93,275-square-foot facility that houses police and court operations and another single-story 22,820-square-foot training building for police. Behind the main building is a 228-stall parking lot for police vehicles.

New features to the facility include; new community rooms, a courtroom seating 96 people, a state-of-the-art communications center and increased space for property, records, evidence and equipment.

The $73 million project began construction in September 2022, with the project led by Kansas City-based JE Dunn.

The former police department and municipal court buildings at 87th Street Parkway and Monrovia Street are now closed to the public, according to the City of Lenexa’s website. Plans to convert the former property into a new Fire Station No. 6 will be looked at this fall.
