The Lee’s Summit Downtown Market Plaza could soon begin construction efforts as the City Council will hold the project’s second public hearing on Tuesday.
In November, the City Council unanimously voted to approve a rezoning of the 4 acres of land near SE Green Street and SE 3dr Street. If approved, the rezoning would effectively change the land from a Planned Community Commercial District to a Central Business District.
Downtown Market Plaza is a joint by the city and Kansas City, Mo-based Lane4 Property Group Inc.
The project will also be developed in phased sequences. The first phase of the project would include a farmer’s market and event space, an outdoor performance area and a streetscape pavilion that would connect to the City Hall building. The first phase is estimated to cost $41.9 million, while the completed Downtown Market Plaza project is estimated at around $120 million.
Construction could begin in the Q1 of 2024 and completion is targeted at a spring 2025 window.
The project architect is led by GLMV Architecture.
