KU Health reports dip in active COVID-19 patients

The number of patients with the active virus continues to decline at The University of Kansas Health System, according to a daily media briefing. Wednesday marks the third consecutive day this week there has been a drop with 27 active cases, down from 33 yesterday and 38 active cases on Friday, Feb. 19.

The University of Kansas Health System has displayed a healthy down-tick in the number of hospitalized patients with active COVID-19.

In a daily media briefing on Wednesday, Feb. 24, the count in active patients dropped into the 20-range at KU Health. The health system reported as of this morning, it had 27 people with the active virus, down from 33 on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Another health system in the Kansas City area, Stormont Vail Health, likewise has been reporting steady numbers trending downward in the number of COVID-19 patients it is treating.

Stormont Health’s COVID-19 Scorecard for Wednesday, Feb. 24 shows the current number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 at Stormont is at 25. This number remains unchanged from yesterday’s count but just slightly down from 28 COVID-19 patients on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Of the 27 active COVID-19 patients at KU Health, seven are in the ICU, a promising drop from 11 the day before. Five of the seven remain on ventilators, down from six on Feb. 23.

During Wednesday’s media briefing with health officials from The University of Kansas Health System, doctors noted that for the first time in while, the health system is using only one intensive care unit for COVID-19 patients.
