KU Cancer Center, Health System Receive $20M in Federal Investments

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, R-Kan., announced The University of Kansas Cancer Center and The University of Kansas Health System have received $20 million in federal investments.

The two organizations will receive $10 million apiece. The KU Cancer Center will receive $10 million toward its new $450 million cancer center building. Additionally, the KU Health System will receive $10 million to advance cardiac technology.

The announcement was made during an event at KU Medical Center in conjunction with hosting W. Kimryn Rathmell, M.D., Ph.D., director of the National Cancer Institute.

“What is taking place at the KU Cancer Center is amazing,” Moran said. “Research is required for cancer to be cured, research is required for cancer to be treated and research is required for cancer to ultimately eliminated from our lives.”

Prior to the announcements, Moran and Rathmell participated in meetings and tours of both the research and patient care facilities at the KU Cancer Center and the KU Health System, according to a release.
