Hospital company HCA Healthcare reported Monday that personal information for potentially tens of millions of HCA patients was breached and placed on an online data forum.
The breach affected patients from 171 hospitals in the U.S. including facilities in Kansas and Missouri.
HCA claimed in a release on Monday that patients’ personal information had been compromised, including their full name, city and when and where they last saw a provider.
Below is a list of KS and MO hospitals affected:
Kansas Hospitals:
Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park
Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park
Wesley Medical Center, Wichita
Missouri Hospitals:
Belton Regional Medical Center, Belton
Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence
Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington
Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit
Research Medical Center, Kansas City
Note: this list of hospitals does not include multiple KS and MO physician clinics also believed affected by the data breach.
The data was taken from an external storage location used to automate email formatting, according to the HCA. It remains unclear if critical information such as diagnoses for patients has been stolen. However, HCA has since made a statement in a privacy update, claiming the hackers do not have possession of impacted diagnoses or other medical information.
