For the fourth straight year, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City has earned the No. 1 spot nationally for its performance relative to the 153 other Jewish federations in North America.
That came following the annual survey by the Department of Planed Giving and Endowments of the Jewish Federations of North America. The group represents those federations and more than 300 network communities, which combine to raise and distribute more than $3 billion a year for social welfare, social services and educational needs.
In announcing the results of this year’s survey this afternoon, the JCFGKC said its top ranking was based on performance in seven different performance measures, including the number and size of foundation funds. Over the past 20 years, it said, the local group has generated more than $203 million for local, national and international charities.
“While being recognized a fourth straight year may give this award a ‘routine’ feeling, it is because our staff and board never treat what we do and how we do it as routine that we earned this award once again,” said Joshua Sosland Jr., the foundation’s boar president. “Our unflagging commitment to meeting the needs of our fund holders and our community remain our greatest source of pride.”
The local foundation said it issued 3,500 separate grants, worth more than $19.9 million, to to different Jewish and secular charitable organizations in 2013.
