KCPS students, staff resume in-person learning Monday

The school district’s approved hybrid reopening model has taken effect. Younger students including those in pre-kindergarten through third grade returned to classrooms Monday as part of a phased return plan for all grades. The district is one of the last to have students return.

For the first time in months, some students are heading back to the classroom in the Kansas City Public School District.

Like in many other districts that previously returned to in-person learning in the metro, it will be the youngest students who head back to the classroom Monday.

Kindergartners through third graders will start in-person learning at elementary schools across the district.

Also returning to the classroom today are what the district calls “critical needs groups” which includes students like high school special education and beginner English language learners.

Next week, starting on March 22, grades four through seven return to the classroom, along with ninth graders. Everyone else — eighth graders, sophomores, juniors and seniors — return on April 5.
