Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is allowing some businesses to have soft opening and all employees back to work on May 6, a move up from the prior May 15.
Called the “10/10/10 rule,” it lets some non-essential businesses open as long as they don’t have more than 10 percent of the building’s occupancy or 10 people, whichever is larger. The business must also record the names and contact information of customers that were in a business more than 10 minutes.
The 10 minutes applies to salons and other businesses that typically have people sitting down. Other than salons, the new rule applies to offices, retail stores, and similar establishments. Religious establishments can have no more than 10 people inside during a ceremony and 50 people outdoors.
The rule still excludes restaurants, bars, gyms, municipal buildings, and movie theaters, which can open on May 15 under the 10/10/10 guidelines.
