KCK school board votes to suspend fall sports

The board voted 5-2 on Tuesday to suspend all fall sports in the district this season, a vote which includes the suspension of other groups involved in sporting events such as marching band and cheerleading.

On Tuesday the Kansas City, Kan. school board voted to suspend all involvement in Kansas State High School Activities Association fall sports.

The suspension includes a halt to football, volleyball, cross country, girls tennis and boys soccer, as well as other groups that actively participate at sporting events like marching band and cheerleading.

“The board specifically chose the word suspend, and I appreciate that because they are recognizing this moment and time right now is not the moment for this right now, and it gives us an opportunity if there are some changes that come about,” KCKPS Athletic Director Tammie Romstad said.

Kansas City, Kan. schools are the first in the Kansas City metro to suspend fall sports for the 2020 season.
