KCI terminal project timeline reaches halfway point

Following two years of construction, the timeline on the new single terminal at Kansas City International has reached the halfway mark. Breaking ground in March 2019, the city’s historically largest infrastructure project is still set to finish in March 2023.

Kansas City’s largest infrastructure project in its history-  and worth around $1.5 billion in development costs – has reached its halfway point.

Construction began in March 2019, its competition still set for March 2023.

Despite the presence of Covid-19 for effectively half of the project’s construction period to date, workers made strides in 2020.

Last year crews completed foundations for the new terminal and began work on its 6,150-space parking garage in September.

In January 2021, the new KCI terminal celebrated its “topping out” with the completion  of all of its 17,500 individual steel pieces, including 25 “Y” columns — each 65 feet tall and more than 56,000 pounds.
