With the Thanksgiving holiday behind them, contractors for the new Kansas City International single airport terminal look ahead to the next steps in construction. The month of November brought marked progress with work on its steel structure, elevated roadway and 6,000-space parking garage.

The month of November brought noted progress for the new single terminal at Kansas City International (KCI) airport.

Construction updates provided over the month included news of the terminal’s steel structure nearing completion as well as an elevated roadway, and the start of parking garage precast concrete which will house over 6,000 spaces.

On Nov. 25, work on parking garage had begun. Crews placed the first of more than 4,400 pieces of precast concrete with the installation of six 35-foot beams, considered to be a large milestone in the project.

The week prior, another update reveals continued progress on a new elevated roadway. Barrier construction remains underway on the east side of the roadway and was scheduled for completion around Thanksgiving.

Plans show the single terminal will spread across just over one million square feet, making it the largest single infrastructure project in Kansas City, Mo. history.

Construction is expected to complete in 2023 and will open with 39 gates. Design will also allow for expansion in the future.
