The KC Streetcar will temporarily suspend service for about 2 weeks on January 27 to begin its next phase of major track construction.
On Monday, Grand Boulevard closed between 2nd and 3rd Street to commence demolition and new track construction. The streets will be closed until April 30, according to a release.
The following Monday, January 27 will mark the beginning of more track construction. Third Street will also be closed between Walnut and Grand.
While KC Streetcar service is temporarily suspended, Ride KC buses will operate on the streetcar route. These buses will operate with regular streetcar hours and stop at all streetcar stops except River Market North at 3rd Street & Grand Boulevard. The service frequency will be 15-20 minutes.
Crews will begin the final bridge closure on March 3 to install and complete all track work for the project.
The KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension is now more than 50% complete. KC Streetcar first broke ground on the more than $60 million project which covers 0.7 miles and connects 3rd & Grand to the midpoint of Berkley Riverfront Park, west of CPKC Stadium. In December, the KC Streetcar announced the final tracks were installed for the Main Street extension project.
