By Madison Parry

A notable decrease in active housing supply in the Kansas City region has had a tightening effect on the metro’s housing market. October data shows Kansas City’s housing supply was down 49 percent from a year ago, the nation's second-largest decline last month.

A decline in active housing supply across the U.S. has rested heavily in the Kansas City region, where listings are making a drop.

In October, Kansas City’s active housing supply was down 49 percent from last year, according to a report from Redfin.

Of the 85 largest metros tracked by Redfin, Kansas City, Mo. had the second-largest decline in active housing supply last month, right behind Allentown, Pa. which showed a 50 percent decline.

Total listings in the metro dropped around 20 percent from September to October. Year-over-year, the listings fell by 49.4 percent.

Only three of the 85 largest metros analyzed by Redfin revealed an increase in active listings in October. These were San Francisco (up by 48 percent), New York City (up by 25 percent) and San Jose, Calif. (up by 4 percent).
