The city council approved the motion to print the new municipal identification cards for the use of city utilities and services.

The plans for this new program were approved Thursday.

Fountain IDs would be valid for 10 years for adults and five years for minors, according to the Kansas City Health Department. The use of these cards is for people who don’t have a driver’s license or passport.

The municipal IDs would make it more accessible for residents to actress libraries, healthcare and checking and savings accounts.

Any Kansas City, MO resident is eligible for the Foundation IDs, however, the resident will still need to prove their identity through verification of a utility bill or pay stub.

Furthermore, the Foundation Card program is expected to cost the city approximately $250,000 a year.
