The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City has announced the election of Lisa Krigsten as a new chair.

Krigsten will serve a two-year term as chair, effective August 1, 2024, according to a release Monday. She succeeds Madeleine McDonough, chair of Shook, Hardy & Bacon. Krigsten is the fourth woman to chair the organization since its founding in 1964.

“As Chair, I will continue to amplify the Civic Council’s research-driven, strategic leadership with inclusive prosperity as a centerpiece of our decisions,” Krigsten said in the release. “I look forward to building on the storied history of this pivotal civic organization.”

Krigsten is a Kansas City managing partner and a member of the board of directors for Dentons US. Prior to joining the firm, she was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the principal deputy attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. She also is a former federal prosecutor.

The Civic Council has a search underway for the next president. Consuelo Ross, vice president of the organization, is the interim leader of the Civic Council staff.
