Kansas City’s business leaders have joined together to form a coalition with one mission: “keep the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in the region.”

On Monday, leaders from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Greater Kansas City Sports, Commission & Foundation and Visit KC released a joint statement calling for swift action to keep the two iconic sports franchises in the region.

Just over a year ago, Jackson County voters rejected a proposed stadium tax that would help fund the construction of a new Royals stadium located in the Crossroads while Arrowhead Stadium would receive new renovations.

Both franchises are currently exploring options on where to take their respective teams next. The Royals’ lease at the Truman Sports Complex expires in 2031.

The joint statement reads:

“Losing these franchises would erase decades of progress and pride. Now is the time for leaders, the teams, and the community to unite as partners, identify a solution, and maintain our region’s momentum — securing our region’s future as a premier sports destination for generations to come.”
