Kansas Senate vote confirms Shultz as Labor Secretary

A unanimous vote from the Kansas Senate on Wednesday has confirmed the appointment of Amber Shultz as the state’s secretary of labor. Shultz has served as acting labor secretary since late January 2021 and will continue to oversee a variety of programs.

In a 40-0 vote today, the Kansas Senate unanimously confirmed the appointment of Amber Shultz as the Kansas Secretary of Labor.

Shultz will oversee the state Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation, Labor Market Information Services, Labor Relations, Legal Services and Industrial Safety and Health divisions.

Most recently, Shultz worked for her hometown, the City of Lawrence, Kan., where she was General Manager of Municipal Services and Operations. Since January 2021, she has served as Kansas’ Acting Labor Secretary.

Over the course of her professional career, Schultz has held many IT positions focused on innovation and modernization with different public and private organizations in both Kansas and Missouri.

Since she began her tenure as Acting Secretary, Schultz has been able to lead the agency through a number of major initiatives, including the recent deployment of a new fraud mitigation software solution.
