The City of Kansas City has approved a 50% property tax abatement over the next 10 years for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City’s new downtown location.
The City Council approved a tax abatement of $21 million for the purchase of furniture, fixtures and equipment for Blue KC’s next headquarters office at 1400 Baltimore Ave.
BlueKC will also retain 1,150 jobs at an average salary of $105,000 and relocate 75 jobs at an average salary of $75,000 and create 50 jobs at an average salary of $90,000, according to city documents.
The health insurer first announced its plans to relocate in 2022, following the entry of a 15-year lease for the space. The 1400KC office towner stands 18 stories tall and has 260,000 square feet of offices.
Blue KC expects to be fully integrated into its new office by April. Blue KC currently occupies 2301 Main St. across from Union Station.
