A new CEO has been appointed to lead both the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute and Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance.
Gene Austin is now the new CEO, he succeeds Dr. Charles Rhoades who announced he will step down from his role after 25 years. Rhoades will continue his orthopedic practice.
Austin previously was CEO of Columbia Orthopaedic Group, a 28-physician group.
KCOA added two Kansas City-area practices, Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic of Kansas City and Midwest Orthopaedics located at the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission campus. Those additions brought the alliance’s physician count to 40.
“For the first time in KCOI’s history, the physician owners and medical staff will be represented by the same practice entity,” Austin said in a release. “At the same time, KCOA’s growth will create new patient service opportunities throughout the metro. While this is a challenging time for healthcare professionals and organizations, we are facing those challenges with an excellent team and a tradition of clinical excellence.”
