By Madison Parry

The region landed at 18 on a list of 100 U.S. cities offering the best work-life balance. Factors such as length of commute time, recreational options, housing costs and amount of time at work in year were taken into consideration.

In the era of COVID-19, much has changed in the workplace. For many, their work-life balance has skewed significantly over the course of the last year, impacted drastically by remote work and other effects of COVID-19.

A study by SmartAsset ranked the top 100 U.S. cities where the work-life balance for residents is the best. Kansas City, Mo. landed toward the top of the list at 18 with several other Midwest cities.

Factors such as existing work culture in a particular region, how much is needed to pay for housing and how long the commute is to and from work were taken into account for the study.

SmartAsset said it considered the following metrics when analyzing and ranking cities: walk score; arts, entertainment and recreation establishments as a percentage of all establishments; restaurants as a percentage of all establishments; housing costs as a percentage of income; average weeks worked per year; percentage of workers with a commute longer than 60 minutes; October 2020 unemployment rate and labor force participation rate and more.
