Companies looking to move and expand in the future were surveyed by the Site Selectors Guild in partnership with Development Counsellors International.
Conducted on June 29, the survey found that many companies are taking preference in mid-size urban regions and rural areas, rather than larger urban areas, to develop.
Of the 11 cities identified as the top mid-size cities for new projects, Kansas City made the list.
Even amid coronavirus, activity has begun to see a slight increase as companies work to get on back on track and prosper.
In response to a portion of the survey that asked if corporate location decisions were moving forward, 61% of respondents said companies are moving forward with site selection projects, 34% said companies are pausing site selection and 5% said companies are canceling projects or consolidating.
Responses from companies concluded that when it comes to choosing locations for projects, big cities are out and suburban and mid-size cities are in, a vote showing 64% of respondents in favor of suburban areas and 57% in favor of mid-size urban areas.
Kansas City falls across multiple categories identified in the survey, offering mid-size, suburban and rural areas a short distance apart, factors which likely contributed to its ranking in the 11 favored cities listed.
