Kansas City, Mo. and the surrounding region is well on its way to surpassing 2019 totals for single-family permits issued.
From Jan. 1, 2020 to Oct. 31, 2020, a total of 4,496 permits were issued, according to data compiled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City. In October alone, more than 500 single family permits were pulled.
This total is an increase from the same time last year in 2019, which recorded a total of 3,810 permits.
“Single-family construction is up 8.6 percent year-to-date nationally and nearly 10 percent in the Midwest according to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development,” said Kansas City Home Builders Association Executive Vice President, Will Ruder, said in a news release. “As cities and counties across the metro feel the fiscal effects of COVID-19, single family construction has been a bright spot.”
October totals of single-family permits showed data for eight different counties considered within the Kansas City metro.
Jackson County recorded the highest overall number of residential building permits issued with 1,468.
Kansas City, Mo. issued the most single-family permits in October with 56. This was followed by Olathe, Kan., with 50; Blue Springs, Mo., with 43 and Lee’s Summit, Mo., with 40.
