Johnson County Urges Residents to Fill Out COVID-19 Survey

By Dawnya Bartsch

In an effort to better understand how the Coronavirus is spreading through the community, Johnson County officials want residents to fill out a short survey, not once, but several times.

Johnson County Department of Health and Environment officials want residents to fill out the survey to see if they can assess how many people might have Covid-19 symptoms by 10 a.m. Friday, April 10. “The survey should be completed for every member of the household. The information is confidential and will only be used by JCDHE to determine how COVID-19 is spreading in the community,” states the County’s website.

“Please fill out the survey accurately and completely. Completing the survey is voluntary, but we ask that as many people as possible participate to get a good picture of how the coronavirus is spreading in the community”, states Dr. Sanmi Areola, JCDHE director.

Officials plan to ask residents to fill out the same survey several more times in the next few weeks in order to compare results.

The survey comes on the heels of a Johnson County Board of Commissioners recent decision to spend $400,000 to purchase thousands of coronavirus tests.

As of April 8, Johnson County reported 239 positive Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths and 1,878 negative tests results. Ten of the deaths were in the 70 to 89 year-old range, one death was in the 40 to 49 year age bracket.
