The Edgerton, Kan. Planning Commission in southern Johnson County has voted to deny all applications of NorthPoint Development's proposal for a 640-acre development. Northpoint had requested rezoning for seven parcels of land located on South Gardner Road.

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Edgerton Planning Commission in Johnson County, Kan. voted to recommend denial of an industrial development proposal from NorthPoint Development.

The proposal included development of around 640 acres to be turned into industrial and commercial development.

NorthPoint requested rezoning for seven parcels of land on South Gardner Road including:

  • One parcel southeast of West 199th Street and South Gardner Road.
  • Two parcels northeast of West 207th Street and South Gardner Road.
  • Two parcels west of 207th Street and South Gardner Road.
  • One parcel southeast of West 207th Street and South Gardner Road.
  • One parcel northeast of West 215th Street and South Gardner Road.

Rejection of the proposal stemmed from numerous residents concerned that the development would reduce property values.

In a previous meeting back in mid-January, NorthPoint representatives said the warehouses would bring hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue to the area, along with jobs.

During the Feb. 9 meeting, a 3-2 vote from the commission did approve a second set of rezoning applications from NorthPoint for parcels south of Interstate 35.

A final decision will be pushed back to the end of February or early March.
