JE Dunn Construction Co. lands a contract for more than $62 million for building improvements at the Charles E. Whittaker U.S. Courthouse in Kansas City, Missouri.
The project is estimated to create over 300 jobs over its approximate 27-month duration, according to a release from the U.S. General Services Administration. The project is set to begin construction later this month.
The federal courthouse will undergo a repair and restoration project with the installation of low embodied carbon (LEC) materials that will increase the efficiency and overall performance of the building.
The GSA awarded JE Dunn a $62.4 million contract as part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda under the Inflation Reduction Act. The IRA is part of a larger $96 million project for a complete window replacement and roof repairs initiative.
This project will install 100,000 square feet of new, low-embodied carbon glass windows and skylights, Improving the energy efficiency of the courthouse by upgrading the roof and replacing a deteriorating curtain wall, including windows and seals.
Additionally, the improvements will provide 2.6 percent in whole-building annual energy savings.

The Charles E. Whittaker U.S. Courthouse, located at 400 E. 9th St., opened in 1998.
