Jackson County voters could see a new question regarding keeping the Chiefs in the county on the upcoming November ballot.
The new proposal would ask for a 20-year extension with a ¼ cent sales tax. The proposal was amended during a Jackson County legislative meeting on Monday with a 5-4 vote. The new plan only mentions the Chiefs.
Last April, Jackson County voted against a 40-year extension for the Chiefs and the Royals with a 3/8 cent sales tax.
Kansas legislators have also shown keen interest in bringing the Chiefs across the state line. In June, the Kansas legislature voted to pass a STAR Bonds package that would cover up to 70% of the team’s stadium projects worth at least $1 billion dollars
The question still needs to be passed during next week’s legislative meeting to be allowed on the November ballot. The deadline for Missouri is Aug. 27.
