The recent buzz that the region’s largest private company, Dairy Farmers of America, would river-hop to new offices in Wyandotte County was spot-on: The milk cooperative confirmed today that it would build its new global headquarters in Kansas City, Kansas.
With $18 billion in revenue for 2014, DFA easily tops the list of the region’s biggest private companies, and ranks only behind publicly held Sprint Corp. in top-line size. More than 325 employees will make the move to a setting near the red-hot Village West area.
That makes it the second Northland giant to look westward for a strategic facility. With its twin-tower additions in 2013 and 2014, Cerner Corp. will eventually employ more than 4,500 in Village West.
“We are pleased to welcome Dairy Farmers of America to the vibrant and growing Village West area where we offer world-class entertainment and retail for residents and visitors to our city,” said Unified Government Mayor Mark Holland. “We’re excited to continue to grow the region with new housing and office development.”
DHA said its new building will feature open floor plans and plenty of glass in a three-story, 100,000-square-foot building, with a goal of achieving LEED design standards when it is completed in late 2016.
“As DFA strives to be the workplace of choice for employees, the new building will feature a modern, flexible work environment designed for employees of today and tomorrow,” CEO Rick Smith in a news release announcing the move.
