Development of a new industrial mega site near the Kansas International Airport could bring more than 9,000 jobs to Missouri.

Developer Hunt Midwest’s recent groundbreaking ceremony for the KCI 29 Logistics Park took place Wednesday and began the kickoff for construction of the 20 million square foot industrial space.

The 3,000-acre mega site, located north of the new KCI Terminal, will attract an estimated 9,000 jobs and generate $2.5 billion of capital investment.

In May, Missouri Governor Mike Parson committed $40 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding to Port KC through the Industrial Site Development Grant Program. In addition, a $2.5 million grant through the Governor’s Transportation Cost-Share Program and the Missouri Department of Transportation assist funding.

“When you look at these mega sites when you are traveling overseas or over the United States, having them be shovel-ready will be huge for the future of our state,” Parsons said. “With Hunt Midwest taking the lead on this, and a partnership with Port KC and the mayor’s office, it is a great project that is going to make Missouri better.”

Hunt Midwest President and CEO Ora Reynolds said the location for this mega-site is crucial toward to development of this project as a result of immediate access to FedEx, UPS, USPS, and Amazon Prime Air services.

Reynolds was also quick to acknowledge the level of partnership required for a project of this size.

“They say it takes a village and this is definitely a village,” she said.

Other featured speakers at the event included: Port KC President & CEO Jon Stephens, Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission member Warren Erdman and Missouri Department of Economic Development acting director Michelle Hataway.

Construction crews are now installing sewage and water access for the site and it is set to complete in fall 2024, according to Hunt Midwest
