Indra Air Traffic Inc. has been awarded a nearly $200 million contract by the U.S. Air Force to manufacture a navigation system in its Overland Park facility.

Indra Air Traffic Inc., the U.S.-based company of the Indra Group, will produce the man-portable Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) systems for the U.S. Air Force. The contract includes a $198.36 million budget to last through 2032.

Headquartered in Spain, the Indra Group is a global defence, aerospace and technology company.

The TACAN system provides navigation services at improvised airfields and restores services after natural disasters, unforeseen situations, and attacks, according to a release. The system can be operated by two people and provides accurate and reliable navigation information for military and civilian aircraft.

“This contract, along with the one secured last year for the renewal of the Federal Aviation Administration’s ground-to-air communications system, represents a major success for our U.S. company and encourages us to strengthen our commitment to the American market, where we offer innovative solutions tailored to its needs,” Director of ATM Development in USA at Indra, Javier Ruano, said in the release.
