Indianapolis-based developer Flaherty & Collins Properties will open a new Kansas City office Stockyards District later in October.

Flaherty & Collins announced its new office will be located at 1600 Genessee Street in the Livestock Exchange Building. The firm is expected to occupy the 2,500-square-foot office by the end of this October, according to a release.

The decision to open a Kansas City office stems from a longstanding relationship with Bill Haw Jr. and the Haw family, who collaborated with the developer on The Yards apartment complex at 1660 Genessee St, as well as The Helm complex at 200 S. James St.

“Choosing the Livestock Exchange Building made perfect sense for us,” CEO of Flaherty & Collins, Robert Flaherty, said in the release. “Its vintage character and central location align with our vision, while allowing us to expand alongside our partners in the Stockyards District.”

The office will house the construction, development and management arms of the company. Establishing a permanent presence in Kansas City will better position the company to continue work on the $300 million Parade Park redevelopment located near 18th and Vine that will feature over 1,000 affordable homes and pursue additional partnerships in the area. Flaherty & Collins is also developing Bellwether, a $113 million, 13-story development with 12,000 square feet of first-floor retail space at Fifth and Main.

The workspace will also feature an on-site café, as well as shared amenities across adjacent properties and nearby hotels and conference facilities. The company will also begin a recruiting and hiring initiative for development and construction positions.
