Kansas City-based H&R Block announced that its CEO, Jeff Jones, will retire at the end of the year, with a successor already next in line.
Jones announced he is planning to retire from his position on December 31 and will remain on the company’s board of directors until then. Following his departure from the role, Jones will continue to help guide the company as a strategic advisor through September 2026, according to a Monday release.
“Leading H&R Block over the last eight years has been the honor of a lifetime,” Jones said in the release. “With bold bets to drive growth, the creation of an extraordinary culture and more recently by embracing the potential of AI to augment the human help for which we are known, we have elevated the brand’s relevance and created significant shareholder value.”
Jones first took on the role of president and CEO of H&R Block in 2017. In those eight years, the company’s stock price increased 123% and its market capitalization grew from $5.5 billion to $7.4 billion. Before joining H&R Block, he served in leadership and marketing roles at Uber, Target and others.
H&R Block has already selected one of its executive personnel to lead the company following Jones’ retirement. H&R Block president of global consumer tax and chief product officer, Curtis Campbell, will succeed Jones as CEO, effective January 1, 2026.
Campbell was unanimously selected by H&R Block’s Board of Directors. He first joined H&R Block in May 2024. Before joining H&R Block, he served as President and CEO of TaxAct for five years.
“Jeff’s vision and leadership transformed H&R Block into the remarkable company it is today, and his legacy will be felt for years to come,” Campbell said in the release. “I am excited to lead our amazing team as we enter our next phase of growth and continue to deliver on our purpose: To provide help and inspire confidence in our clients and communities everywhere.”
